Human Or Replicant ?

There are very few movies that I see on opening day, Blade Runner 2049 being one of them. This was a cinematic experience that really tied together cinematography, story telling and the current conversation of artificial intelligence for me. It also inspired a continuation of a quest to create Sci-fi themed images. So did The Matrix, but more on that later 🙂 I do my best to show a rough recipe in that strange path for this image below.

The city is San Francisco. From an Arcanum photo-walk in the late summer of 2015.

The floating vessel is composed of a highway overpass, textures from furniture and multiple copies of a DOS window I created in the fall of 2017 that reads:

“Surreal, abstract, bold and minimal are themes that continue to evoke that curious spark of discovering what is possible. Inspiration flows from all areas of life and I usually follow the crooked path. In the ethereal sense, I let the image and my imagination be the guide through the journey.”

You may have seen this statement on the blog before :). I thought this added a needed hidden human element to the image to ground it with all this weird talk about replicants and artificial intelligence.

Nik Color Effects Pro was used to fine tune the combined two images images into an orange hue that the movie had in some scenes.

“They know you’re here”

As with some of my composites and images, they are the result of an unplanned, organic editing process that happens after the initial photo or photos have been taken. This one is no exception !

More Sci-Fi and Fantasy shown here. More to come !

Cheers,

Jamie
